Using hardwoods and fine decorative veneers Hugh
creates a wide range of objects – both the decoratively functional (Innovative
lighting, furniture and homeware) and artistic sculptural pieces.
All work is designed and handcrafted in Ireland using solid wood and fine veneers.
“My aim is to illustrate lightness and movement - to harness the inherent beauty of individual wood species with the grain texture and pattern being integral to the finished form.”
For his unique art forms Hugh is one of the group of artists represented in Dublin by the Olivier Cornet Gallery (3 Great Denmark Street). Hugh contributes regularly to the Gallery’s themed group shows and a broad collection of his work is available there to view throughout the year (please see examples of this element of Hugh’s work in our ‘GALLERY’ drop down under ‘SCULPTURAL FORMS’.)
Hugh is also a member of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, being selected for the Portfolio Wider Programme in 2019. He is a member of Visual Artists Ireland and the Dun Laoghaire Artists Network
Hugh consciously works within the constraints of sustainability and climate change. He celebrates the extraordinary variety of woods from all parts of the world highlighting and contrasting their qualities,
Hugh is always happy to discuss individual needs and preferences in terms of materials used and welcomes new commissions for personal and corporate gifts.
